5 Clever Ways to Upcycle Used Candle Jars

If you love candles as much as we do, you probably have an expansive collection of burnt-up candles piling up in an obscure closet or corner of your home. Never fear - there's no need to waste them! Once you’ve fully enjoyed the warm glow and fragrance of your candles, you can re-purpose those jars you just can’t bring yourself to throw away in tons of fun ways. Here’s our list for the top five ways to reuse that cute candle jar!

#1.) Convert candle jars into plant pots.

As it turns out, small to medium size candle jars are the perfect size for succulents! Larger jars can accommodate leafier additions. Word to the wise—if you’re growing in water, then clear jars will work fine. But, choosing amber or colored glass candle jars for planting can help to camouflage the brown soil if you’d rather not feature the dirt underneath your plants.

#2.) Organize your vanity with candle jars.

Keep your beautification space tidy by upcycling your favorite scented candle jars. Use large jars to hold make-up brushes, eyeliners, and pencils. For items such as Q-tips, cotton wool pads, or bobby pins, use a smaller container.

#3.) Re-purpose candle jars as flower vases.

Instead of planting succulents or spring bulbs in your candle jars, consider using them as a vase for some fresh blooms. Using a few more flowers than normal and cutting them a bit shorter than you typically do results in a full, beautiful, unique bouquet. Merging flowers and candles, in our opinion, is really one of the happiest combinations on earth!

#4.) Create a strike-on-jar match set.

One clever idea for beautifully upcycling your used candle jars is to fill them with scented or colored matches and affix a strike strip to the bottom of the jar. That way, your matches stay neatly and smartly contained in a jar that makes you happy to see.

#5.) Tidy your desk with candle jars.

Everything “desk stationary” can be organized with candle jars beautifully. Have a massive collection of colored pencils, markers, pens, and/or pencils? Use medium to large size candle jars for those items. Paper clips, staples, binder clips, etc. can be housed in smaller jars.

Reusing your candle jars is all about creating goodness. Choosing to create something beautiful and functional from what could otherwise have been considered trash is its own joy. So, no matter where your candle jars came from originally, the fact that you’re breathing new life into them is awesome! But, if you’re repurposing the jars of custom-scented candles you’ve poured at a local DIY candle shop, (so much fun!!) you’ll have the added benefit of recalling a cherished memory every time you see it, too. Perhaps, the candle jar that’s filled with your custom-scented candle today might contain a beautiful succulent next week!
