Why Doesn’t My Candle Smell as Good as it Used To

We all love candles for a multitude of reasons, the obvious reason being…SCENT. From warm and cozy scents to tropical and sweet scents, candles are a great way to fill your room with a scent that transports you to a different place. But, have you ever experienced your candle losing its scent? Or does it not smell as nice as it did when you first lit it? There are a few ways to prevent this from happening to your precious scents.

The First Burn is Crucial

The first burn of your candle’s life is crucial to how the candle performs. Making sure that your candle is burning for at least an hour is a great way to make sure your candle will last longer, and that the scent will last. If you light the candle for 15 minutes, it’s not giving the candle enough time to burn and fill the room. It is vital to make sure that the wax has had enough time to heat up on the first burn.

Make sure the Candle is covered

Make sure that the candle lid is always on your candle when you are not using it. This is a great way to make sure the scent lasts as long as possible. Leaving the lid on the candle when it’s not lit prevents any air or dust from getting into the candle. This could be the main reason why your candle isn’t burning as well as it used to.

Burn Your Candle in a Smaller Room First

If you are worried about your candle not smelling nice after each use, when you get a new candle, try putting it in a smaller room, such as a bathroom or a small office. This will help you to figure out the throw of your candle before you move it into bigger rooms. If you have noticed that your candle is not as strong as it once was or doesn’t smell as nice as it did when you first bought or made it, this is a great way to see how the candle performs in smaller places. It gives you a gauge to figure out what the issue is.

There are many factors that may go into why your candle isn’t performing as well as it used to, but there are ways to prevent this from happening and ways that you may be able to troubleshoot these issues. When it comes down to it, take this as your sign to go out and buy yourself a new one and fuel your evergrowing candle addiction.
