4 Creative Ways to Use Candles Outside
Everyone loves candles, and this time of year, everyone loves to be outside! Now if only there were a way to safely combine those things… Well, there is-- and we’ve got some ideas for you!
Tealights in a Jar: One of the simplest ways to enjoy candles outside without worrying about them is to place your typical tealight candles into jars or bowls (we love the aesthetic of using mason jars for this!). This way, you don’t have to worry about the wind blowing them out, or whether or not they’ll fall over and light up your yard in all the wrong ways.
Hanging Terrarium Candle Holder: This candle holder idea has the same effect as tealights in a jar, except you can hang it up! There are a couple of ways to make these hanging candles. First, purchase a hanging terrarium and simply swap out the plants for a candle! Or, wrap some wire around the mouth of a mason jar and hang up your tealights in a jar!
Walkway Candles: There’s nothing more beautiful (or romantic) than a candlelit walkway in the summer. The simplest way to create your own candlelit walkway is to place tealight or votive candles in glass jars (or any other fire-safe container that fits your mood) and line them up along your walkway. If you really want to get creative, try purchasing a few garden stepping stones and gluing your tealights to them in a fun, creative pattern!
Keep the Bugs Away: Citronella candles are a great way to keep mosquitoes away while you spend time outside. But what if you don’t have any? You can make them! All you need is a mason jar, a floating candle, lemons, limes, basil, and lemongrass essential oil! Simply put a few slices of lemon and lime in your jar, along with a couple of sprigs of basil, and fill the jar with water. Add 10-15 drops of lemongrass oil, stir, and add your floating candle!
Of course, while these are examples of safer ways to enjoy your candles outside, it’s always best to make sure your candles are far away from anything that could catch fire, such as patio furniture or branches, and you should never leave your candle unattended!
