Get Crafty with DIY Halloween Candles
We are one short month away from Halloween and that means its spooky season. Halloween is a favorite holiday of many (maybe because you’re usually not obligated to spend it around the dinner table with extended family) and we’re in agreement- what’s not to like? If you’re a fan of this macabre holiday, then you probably have a few decorations that you’re getting ready to break out of storage and set up around your home. Well, what’s spookier than candlelight? Check out these fun DIY Halloween candle decoration ideas and make your home a favorite haunt of all!
Cobwebs and Spiders
This technique is so easy that anyone can do it. Grab some of the white, stretchy spiderweb material sold in any Halloween store and tear off a chuck. With just a touch of hot glue, stick a small section of webbing to your candle jar and stretch the remaining material so it wraps around the whole container. You can use another dab of hot glue to hold the other edge down as well. Then simply stick a plastic spider in the webbing and – voila! A creepy candle. Just make sure that your webbing doesn’t get anywhere near the flame of the burning candle or you could have a fire on your hands.
Spooky Lace
Amother super simple idea for someone without much time or energy to create their décor. You’ll want to find some lace that is almost as wide as your candle is tall. Measure and cut a strip the size of your candle and hot glue the lace to the outside of your candle jar. This looks especially good when the candle has burned down a bit and the light casts through the lace.
Bleeding Candles
Making these is not only simple, it’s also a ton of fun. You just need a red candle and a white candle or candle jar. Light the red candle and, as the wax starts to melt, carefully drip it onto the white candle around the wick and down the sides, or around the rim of the candle jar. Your candle will look like it has blood dripping down the sides. These aren’t for lighting though – just for show!
Skull Candle Holders
You can get creative with this idea and really make it your own. One way to do it is to get a large plastic skull and make a hole or a few holes in the top of the skull. Grab a couple of tall taper candles to stick in the holes and your candle holder is complete. Or you can get a little more intricate and stack a few smaller plastic skulls on top of one another, gluing them together. Grab a couple of terra cotta flower pot bases and glue one upside-down on the bottom and one right-side-up on the top. Spray paint the whole thing to your desired color and then place a candle on top of the pillar. A great decoration to adorn a serving table at your haunted party.
Doing DIY décor for your Halloween decorations could save you a bit of money and you’ll feel pride in having done it yourself. Chances are you probably already have some candles laying around the house ready to be turned into cool and creepy decorations for Halloween. So get crafty!
