Using Interior Design to Improve Your Mood

Have you ever walked into a room and felt immediately relaxed and at ease? Or maybe the opposite - you visit a friend’s house and can’t help feeling stressed out the whole time. The interior design of a room can actually impact people’s mood and emotions. The color, the lighting, and the design can alter how people feel. Sometimes, the entire room can convey an emotion or mood. All rooms have different needs and purposes and various types of people living in said rooms. Shouldn’t you use interior design to help make your space into the kind of room you want it to be?

Color can change the aura of a room. Different color tones can convey feelings. Colors can bring out different sensations within people. Some colors can be fitting for all sorts of settings, while others are better suited to be used in a certain type of space.

Neutral colors

  • Black- Powerful and sophisticated. Not a color to be used in large amounts.

  • White- Purity and cleanliness. Used to convey an open feeling, making the space feel bigger. An exorbitant amount can lead to a sterile and medical response.

  • Brown- Grounding, in a natural way. Such as wood or the earth. However, overuse can cause dullness.

  • Grey- Relaxing and comfortable.

Warm colors

  • Red- Passion, fire, and love. Is even known to raise metabolism and blood pressure.

  • Orange- Energy and motivation, but more of an accent color.

  • Yellow- A positive color. Think of a smiling sun.

  • Pink- Alternative for red.

Cool colors

  • Green- Nature, creates a calming environment.

  • Blue- Stable and confidence. A calm feeling that can be put anywhere.

  • Purple- Creativity, luxury, and wealth. Extremely versatile.

Lighting is also one of the most important needs for all locations of the living space. The reason behind the lighting of a room can be because of the different needs of the room. Some rooms will need more lighting than others. Dim lighting in a dining room can make people more comfortable speaking, while the lighting needs to be enough so the people can see their food. Natural lighting can make people more motivated and not to mention the benefits of sunlight to the body. Extra lighting in a spot can ensure a safer space, turning a dim-lit corner to a new spot for reading.

The design and layout of a room can change the whole nature of the room. A layout can affect how the people commune within the space. Chairs and seating facing towards one another or in a group can encourage interaction. Furniture should be chosen for your best interest. Things that make you feel, happy, energetic, and comfortable.

Happy

  • Make the space yours, putting in items that have an emotional value to them. Pictures of the family will make you happy every time you see them.

Energetic

  • Plants. Imitates a natural and outdoor energy, boosting your energy and spirit.

  • Using Feng Shui, create an energy flow that gives a calming sense. Such as organizing the furniture in a more pleasing way.

Comfortable

  • Comfortable furniture, not in the way of a massaging chair, but in a way that makes you feel better about. Like not getting white dining room chairs.

  • Decorating with items that have sentimental value, an empty feeling room will create the perception of being unfinished.

  • Organizing in a way that makes life easier for you, such as putting the coffee table closest to your favorite chair.

Creating the interior design of a home can seem to be a daunting task - choosing the life of each room. Placing the furniture in the right spot and choosing the color for everything. That’s where a professional interior designer could come in handy. They can help you decide what is right for you in your space. Choose an experienced designer and watch them transform your home into your perfect paradise.
